This year we have the chance to vote in what may be the most important election of our lifetime. You know about the challenges we face every day - our soldiers are fighting in Iraq, energy prices are soaring, and our economy is in turmoil - all good reasons to vote.
But you can't vote unless you are registered and the deadline for registering is October 6.

This is Governor Jennifer Granholm reporting to you from Japan, where I am completing my sixth overseas investment mission to bring jobs and investment back to Michigan.
As positive as this mission has been, this was a difficult week to be so far from Michigan. The turmoil in the economy that resulted in the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the sale of Merrill Lynch ? and the bailout of insurance giant AIG -- reinforced that we were prudent last year in redoubling our special efforts to keep Michigan's fiscal house in order.

As I have said many times, my commitment is to go anywhere and do anything to bring jobs to Michigan.
So Monday, I am headed to Japan once again to meet with business and industry leaders about all that Michigan is doing to diversify our economy and attract good jobs in fast-growing industries.
So during three whirlwind days, I'll meet with 22 Japanese companies that are considering investment in Michigan.
This is the sixth time I have led a jobs mission overseas. Our previous trips to Germany, Austria, Japan, and Sweden have resulted in 37 companies announcing more than $826 million in new investment in Michigan and that has resulted in more than 9,000 good paying jobs right here.

This week we ended a painful chapter in Michigan's history.
On Thursday, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick resigned as part of a plea agreement with the Wayne County Prosecutor, just one day after I began a hearing on the Detroit City Council's request that I remove him from office.
This crisis has taken its toll on our state, and made it harder for us to focus on our most important issue?getting the good paying jobs we need in Michigan.
