Effective this week, Arkansas minors will now be more easily identified by their state driver's license or ID card. Minors' licenses are now a completely different shape - vertical. The vertical format has all the same demographics as the presently used horizontal license - with a few minor changes. If the card holder is under the age of 21, there will be a red box under their photo listing the...

It worries me when people speak of the arts as if they're extracurricular, extraneous and expendable. Students involved in the arts have shown higher academic performance, increased standardized test scores, lower drop-out rates, and have done more community service than their peers who are not involved in the arts.
A friend of mine who shares this same belief is Lorenzo "Ren" Smith. Lorenzo...

This holiday season will be the last for Janet and me in the Governor's Mansion. After ten wonderful years, we will say good-bye to our home and move onto a new chapter in our lives. I am deeply thankful, however, for the opportunity you gave me to serve you and this state that I love.
There is plenty to be thankful for, but one of the things I am most grateful for is the service of our Arkan...

It's a situation that a lot of people unfortunately encounter in their workplace. In many instances, employees - no matter how hard or efficiently they work - are only rewarded with pay raises based on their length of service to the company. While longevity and length of employment are important to the growth of a good company, it can be frustrating to employees who play a substantial role in a co...

Many Arkansans treasure the priceless natural beauty that lives within our Natural State. My great love of the outdoors comes from a sense of respect that God created nature for us to marvel at, to enjoy and to use - but not abuse. He meant for us to take good care of it and to be faithful, responsible stewards so that we could pass it on to our children and grandchildren in at least as good of sh...

We are in the midst of an exciting day in Arkansas history as production begins at the state's newest automotive parts production plant. HINO Motors Manufacturing, USA, a subsidiary of HINO Motors, Ltd. and part of the Toyota Group Companies, began production in their new state-of-the-art plant in Marion this past month.
HINO Motors is the largest producer of commercial vehicles in Japan and m...

Last week more than 42,000 women participated in Little Rock's 13th annual Race for the Cure. We have one of the largest races in the nation and the last "women only" race. Looking down streets of our capitol city - you were overwhelmed with a sea of vibrant pink. Women ran in honor of loved ones who are fighting breast cancer or in memory of a loved one who lost their brave battle against this de...

This week, we marked the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America. September 11, 2001 is a day so marked in our soul. We'll always remember those moments we heard of planes flying into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
Of all the things we can do now, we can remember terrorists will always wait to inflict harm and death on America, yet our resolve remains strong. T...

Wednesday, I announced the appointment of Major Gen. Ronald Chastain as the next Adjutant General of the Arkansas National Guard at a ceremony at the State Capitol. Gen. Chastain replaces Major Gen. Don C. Morrow who is resigning after almost 10 years as Adjutant General. As the new Adjutant General, he says his goal is to continue to improve the readiness of the National Guard to respond to f...
