Due in no small part to the success of this podcast, I've been asked to help create a statewide podcast for TxDOT to talk about broader departmental issues. The success of this podcast is entirely due to your listener and viewership, without which, I'd just be talking to myself. So I can get a few days off at the end of the year, this week's episode is a sneak preview of an upcoming episode of the statewide podcast.

TxDOT's Palestine Maintenance Section works on the shoulders of FM 321 north of Palestine. The repairs help keep the edge of the pavement from breaking away and causing base failures.

For nine or ten months out of the year, highway maintenance consists of everything from laying hot mix or seal coat, to repairing potholes to dirt work. If you've been watching the TxDOT working for you videos, you've seen most of our field maintenance operations. But once the year's coldest months come around, TxDOT's maintenance forces take on a whole new role. For more on what that role entails, I spoke with Mark McClanahan, the maintenance supervisor in Canton.

TxDOT's North Tyler Maintenance Section responds to a one-vehicle wreck on Interstate 20 near Winona. The tractor-trailer hit the center median barrier hard enough to break out several reinforced concrete blocks more than two feet thick at the base. The driver survived the impact and was airlifted to a hospital.
